Product Overview
Brand: Chimney Sheep
Color: grey
Features:
- Wool moulds to the shape of the frog rather than sitting flat on top of it, so the pad follows the underside of the hoof.
- It is breathable and hygroscopic, which is a long way of saying it wicks the wet and the gunge away rather than trapping it against the hoof.
- Wool absorbs many times its own weight in moisture without feeling wet, and keeps letting air through while it does it.
- Wash it, dry it, use it again. When it finally gives up, it composts.
- Made in the UK from sheep wool felted onto a jute carrier. 10% of profit goes to Buy Land Plant Trees CIC.
Details: Product description These hoof pads are made of sheep wool felted onto a jute carrier, and the reason they work is that wool moulds. A flat pad sits on the sole; a wool pad takes the shape of the frog and follows the whole underside rather than one flat plane. Wool is breathable and hygroscopic, so it wicks moisture and gunge away from the hoof instead of trapping it there, and it will hold many times its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. Wash them, dry them, and use them again; when they finally give up they compost. Made in the UK, in 12cm, 15cm and 20cm. 10% of profit goes to Buy Land Plant Trees CIC. Directions Like insoles for humans, if you're wanting to use these for cushioning, you simply have to trim these to size and pop into your horses boot. The grippy, fibrous surface of the wool will simply grip onto the rubber of the inside of the boot. Wool is also naturally compressive, meaning it will gently and evenly conform to the horses frog and hoof shape, dispersing pressure. Ensure you trim the hoof pad to a size where it fits snugly inside the boot, it doesn't move about, so it can sit across the hoof flat without bunching.
