Details: Blue Vervain is a widespread, native perennial which can be found in moist meadows and prairies, streambanks, and floodplains. The blue-lavender flowers occur in spikes at the tops of the branches. It is a good component for reclamation and pollinator mixes for moister sites. Attracts a wide array of native bees and butterflies. Sowing: Direct sow these verbena seeds for sale in late fall, pressing the seed into the surface of the soil. For spring planting, mix the seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 30 days before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination. Growing: Water seedlings until they become established. Since they prefer moist or wet soil, these plants can tolerate short periods of flooding; they can also adapt to slightly drier soil. This plant attracts bees and butterflies, and readily spreads by rhizomes ad reseeding.
